It's always fun for me to hear that others have the same quirks as I do when it comes to having neurotic preferences such as what font to use when one sits down at the keyboard. I imagine it has something to do with a writer's universal need to procrastinate and tinker with every little piece of their work. So I really enjoyed an article in Slate that I came across last week that posed to a number of contemporary writers the question, "What is your favorite font"? It's even more amusing when you read and see that those of us nutty enough to actually spend the time thinking about it enough to have a favorite, seem to choose the same ones.It seems to follow that Courier (a favorite of Jonathan Lethem, who is a favorite of mine ...), one of the typewriter mimicking fonts was one of the most popular (though I find Courier a little too spacey and wide, I prefer American Typewriter, though there seems to be some disagreement out there about its worth), but I got a kick out of the fact was Hoefler Text was mentioned, too. I did think that was one of my more obscure faves, but apparently Caleb Crain enjoys it, too.
